5 Deadliest Weapons In History

Deadliest Weapons In History

They easily could have made up any list of the 5 deadliest weapons ever wielded in war on the modern battlefield. Let us look at the top five most dangerous and lethal weapons in the world, created by humanity. It is hard to estimate how many people have been killed or maimed with different weapons throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.

1. AK-47 assault rifle

Countless guerilla, militant, and revolutionary movements have adopted the AK-47 assault rifle, with estimates suggesting as many as 100 million AK-47s were in circulation at the turn of the 21st Century.

2. Gatling Gun

First fielded in the Civil War, the Gatling gun was an early fast-firing weapon in history. Consisting of several barrels spinning on a central axis, the gun -- invented by Richard Gatling Richard Gatling -- solved the problem of providing continuous fire for the first time during the Gunpowder Age.

After Gatling improved on his original design with six barrels, which fired 350 rounds a minute, the US Army actually adopted the Gatling Gun.

3. Maxim Machine Gun

The Maxim Machine Gun would eventually replace the Gatling gun, but the crude, hand-powered weapon was an indication of things to come. The Maxim machine-gun used modern technologies like machine tools, smokeless powder, and belt-fed ammo.

Design innovations like the weapon being loaded from a breech, smokeless powder, and round-fed ammunition made the rifle more lethal. Once the assault weapons ban expired after 10 years, in 2004, firearms manufacturers rapidly began producing them, and sales increased.

Fully automatic weapons had been tightly restricted in the United States since the National Firearms Act of 1934, which was directed against assault-style weapons at the time, according to NPR. In fact, the United States was the only nation that equipped its troops with an automatic weapon during wartime, the infantrys standard weapon. Many weapons used during WWI were already outdated at the beginning of WWII. Since then, we have seen guns, shotguns, tanks, nukes, submarines, bioweapons, and so on.

4. Atom Bomb

Although nuclear weapons were used in war only twice - the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 - about 13,400 are reported to still be around today, and more than 2000 nuclear tests have been conducted so far. Among hundreds of enormous weapons, the atomic bomb is arguably the most memorable, with its effects felt decades after the end of war.

The atom bomb is perhaps the most well-remembered weapon from the second world war, its effects lasting decades after it was used and the end of the war. It is precisely because of the overpowering force of this kind of weapon, it is the strongest weapon the world has ever seen, that the kind of weapon has been used only twice in history, and those times were just days before the end of World War II, when two atom bombs were dropped, the little one and the big one, which destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

5. Schwerer Gustav

It is an anti-personnel weapon, designed to rain down explosive, time-fused shrapnel projectiles on the opposing forces with a staggering speed of 15 rounds a minute. It is considered to be the first modern artillery weapon, and was the first field gun with hydro-pneumatic recoil.

The Schwerer Gustav was the largest calibre of artillery weapon ever used in battle; it was the most heavily mobile artillery gun ever built, considering the overall weight, and fired the largest projectiles of all guns. By researching what are the most dangerous weapons of mass destruction, which are the largest nukes ever made, what is their range and deadly power, what are the most dangerous chemical weapons, what weapons proved deadly in the World Wars, then advanced by modern technologies and sciences, we arrived at our list of 15 of the worlds most powerful weapons.
